Sunday Silence...

My children can talk to the animals...
Tanner feeding a Downy Woodpecker...
Elizabeth Morton Sanctuary in Sag Harbor, Long Island...

for some reason they gravitate to them...

Cooper feeding  a Downy woodpecker...

they must understand their innocence...
feel their compassion...

Brady luring in the chipmunks...

sometimes silence is god's greatest gift...
I watch in amazement...

We stayed quiet and just listened and watched...

seagull...
wild turkeys...
hawk...

Peconic Bay...

Cardinal bird...
all the way from Kentucky I'm sure...
A downy woodpecker...
Unfortunately...my boys don't stay silent too long...

Happy 7th Birthday Tanner boy...
I'm thinking that,
you
had
fun...

How do your kids like to celebrate their birthdays???
What do you do as a family that makes it special???

  7. That is so amazing that the bird will land on your son's hand. He has a special connection with them I guess :).

  8. I love that picture of the three boys together, yelling and having a blast! Looks like a great way to celebrate a birthday. So far, we've used L's birthday as an excuse to have our friends over for dinner, especially those with kids her age, but I know that will change as she gets older!

  9. OK, my 7 year old boy is AMAZED that yours got to hold a woodpecker. He wants to know HOW he did it! :) We have a few birds around here, but they are not sitting still for long :)

    1. this place is amazing...especially in the winter where food is scarce...but, usually only black cap chickadees come to feed off of you...this day however, the woodpeckers came as well!!! there is a special seed...I will ask my husband what is is madeup of that these birds love...just quietness, stillness and a ton of patience ;) As you can see...the quietness was short lived, ha ha! If ya'll are ever in this area I'll take you!

  10. That's really special, that bird sitting on your son's hand! Usually they are so skittish.

You made me smile when I read about boys never staying silent for very long. You are so right!

  15. What GREAT pictures! What special kids :) Our birthday celebrations are rather mundane...cake, a song, a gift, candles... They do get to pick what sort of party they'd like with their friends ...within reason!

Happy birthday to your 7-year old! I had a boy turn 7 on the 6th :)

  17. Oh so neat about the bird and your son. And so true about boys not staying silent for long! Today we are celebrating my daughter's 5th birthday at this pizza place for kids where they are just running around being crazy. A party for her on Saturday after my 10k. Only so many years to make memories.

  20. Ha ha! I'm laughing at your "tall and skinny" comment on my blog. I feel tall when I'm in heels cause then I'm 5 10 and I like being taller than some guys! OMG! I admitted that in public -- tee hee. But my new daughter-in-law is 6 feet tall (she's a shrimp next to my 6'4" son). Not THAT's tall and skinny.
    Take care :)

    1. Yeah...5'3 is a bit more like me, well almost!! your son is exactly one foot taller than my husband, LOL... I call us short and dumpy ;)

  21. What a beautiful post! My son has hawk eyes. I love it when he bikes with me while I run because he spots 10 times the animals I ever do alone. Although, he always spots more coyotes than I am comfortable with - ignorance is probably bliss in this case!

    1. I cannot imagine just randomly seeing a coyote...seriously???
